Blackfriars Priory | An Architectural Palimpsest.

Abstract | The essay explores Blackfriars Priory in Gloucester through the concept of an ‘architectural palimpsest’, a building that has constantly been adapted to suit a variety of needs throughout the centuries. The Priory is significantly important to Historic England and yet in the past the building has been subjected to a series of drastic alterations. These changing perceptions of value, authenticity and worth are explored and questioned while being accompanied by a written and photographic journey through the building.
